Foothills Humane Society is fulfilling a long-time goal of creating our own spay/neuter clinic at the shelter, but we really need your help! The essential surgical tools are expensive – each pack costs about $200. They are reusable but the initial purchase will run around $10000. We are asking for contributions to purchase cat and dog spay packs so we can begin this fall.
The burden of thousands of unwanted animals in Polk County can easily be reduced with these simple surgeries. The shelter needs your help in achieving this important goal, so please help with a donation. Thank you!
I would like to take a minute to explain the situation that our rescue is in and many of those around us.
The state law (with good reason) states that we cannot adopt out a pet without them being altered. Just to give you an idea of our situation we currently have three cats who have approved adoptions, but haven’t been able to be altered yet. We have 17 dogs in the same situation. That’s 20 pets who could already be in their forever homes, but can’t because they are not fixed. With that being said we also have 55 cats and 50 dogs in our care who are not altered. Every week we get 7 cat surgery spots and 8 dog surgery spots. That means with our pending appointment slots it will take us 9 weeks to just get caught up. Which obviously in those 9 weeks we will get countless more dogs and cats.
The need for the surgical unit is huge, and the need is now! The sooner we reach our goal, the sooner we can purchase the needed supplies, and the sooner we can get these pets into their forever homes! If you can please donate. If you can’t donate please share this fundraiser. And as always please spay and neuter your pets, adopt don’t shop!
