With kitten season in our midst, we want to remind the community DO NOT KITTEN-NAP! When you discover kittens outside, it is often tempting to scoop them up and heroically save them, but this isn’t always in the kittens’ best interest and can actually be more harmful than helpful. Think of how you were always told to not disturb baby birds when you find them – this rule similarly applies to kittens!
We have created a helpful guide with instructions on what actions to take if you find kitten(s). We encourage you to save this to your phone for easy access this kitten season. You never know when you will find a little pipsqueak meowing under the bushes.
The shelter environment is no place for kittens and following this guide will help save lives. Kittens already have an underdeveloped immune system, but the stress of the shelter environment makes them more susceptible to disease. Keeping them out in the community, spaying/neutering them, and responsibly rehoming them results in the best outcome. Don’t worry! We are here to help with all of the resources.
